The Land Rover Discovery Series II, often referred to simply as the Discovery 2, was the second generation of the Land Rover Discovery model line. It was produced from 1998 to 2004 and represented an evolution of the original Discovery Series I. The Discovery 2 maintained the off-road prowess of its predecessor while incorporating various improvements in terms of technology, comfort, and design.
The Discovery 2 retained the boxy and utilitarian design of the Discovery 1 but featured a more refined and modern appearance. It had a distinctive stepped roofline, similar to its predecessor, and retained the Alpine windows.
The Discovery 2 was offered with various engine options, including V8 petrol engines and a Td5 diesel engine. The 4.0-liter V8 engine was a popular choice, and later models featured a 4.6-liter V8 for increased power.
The interior of the Discovery 2 was more refined compared to its predecessor, featuring improved materials and comfort features. It continued to offer seating for up to seven people with optional rear jump seats. Technological features included air conditioning, power windows, and an upgraded sound system.
The Discovery 2 maintained Land Rover’s reputation for off-road capability, with features like permanent four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, and advanced traction control systems. Hill Descent Control (HDC) was introduced, allowing the vehicle to descend steep slopes with greater control.
